Projects

A Track Record Spanning Four Countries

Domestic and industrial water infrastructure at every scale — from 400 m³/day community plants to 700,000 m³/day metropolitan facilities.

Projects at Every Scale

From the Kitchener Drainage Canal in Cairo — one of the world's largest treatment complexes — to remote First Nations communities in Northern Ontario, BioTerraVa has delivered water and wastewater infrastructure across four continents. Every project reflects the same senior P.Eng. discipline: design for the worst day, not the average day.

Capacity Audit Defers $4M Expansion

A 25,000 m³/day Ontario municipal plant was facing overflow events and had budgeted $4M for a parallel train. BioTerraVa conducted a 6-week capacity audit using BioWin process simulation, hydraulic profiling, and I/I monitoring.

Outcome: Identified 35% hidden capacity through aeration optimization, sidestream management, and clarifier baffle upgrades. The expansion was deferred by 4 years, saving the municipality $3.2M in capital while maintaining ECA compliance.

Heavy Metals Source Control Program

An integrated steel mill in Ontario was receiving MECP attention for zinc and nickel exceedances across three outfalls. BioTerraVa designed a source-segregation and chemical-precipitation strategy.

Outcome: Segregated concentrated pickle-line streams at source, implemented pH-optimized precipitation (Zn at pH 9.5, Ni at pH 10.2), and added ion-exchange polishing. All outfalls now compliant; filter-press dewatering reduced sludge hauling by 22%.

Packaged Water Plant + Operator Training

A First Nation community of 800 residents needed a new drinking water system to replace failing wells. BioTerraVa designed a packaged, winterized treatment plant with full automation and remote monitoring.

Outcome: Plant commissioned on schedule with 99.7% uptime in first year. Three local operators certified through a structured 6-month training program. ISC funding secured with full technical support.
